Organization History
For over 25 years, Outward Visions has
represented the highest standards in both artistic expression and
business professionalism. In addition to management representation
of some of the
most innovative, influential and provocative artists both within
the jazz tradition (including George Russell, the Art Ensemble
of Chicago, Sam Rivers
and the World Saxophone Quartet) and outside (including Nikolais
Dance Theatre, Steve Reich, John Zorn), Outward Visions has also
developed a number of
revolutionary programs and projects encompassing performance, business
strategy, education & community outreach, organizational development
and partnership.
At the center of OVI's activities has
been the unwavering dedication to bettering the working environment
and providing sensible alternatives for jazz musicians in a business
that has always been terribly exploitative.
With the advent of new technology comes new opportunity
and Outward
Visions is not only devoting its energies to the education of
future jazz artists and professionals and offering new possibilities
to working musicians, but is also working with technology-oriented
entities toward developing new paradigms of business and community
development for the 21st century. Included in these efforts is the
publishing of
Straight Ahead: A Comprehensive Guide to the Business of
Jazz* [*Without Sacrificing Dignity or Artistic Integrity],
and a Teacher's Guide to Straight Ahead with Suggested Assignments, now
available. Outward
Visions continues
to serve innovative artists through its ongoing work with living
masters George Russell and Oliver Lake, and keeping alive the legacies
of Makanda Ken McIntyre and Thomas Chapin.
